Samsui
A motion short chronicling rapid changes and socio-economic disparities present in my home country Singapore, in spite of its global standing as a thriving, successful nation. Based on a personal diaspora, milky watercolored cityscapes connote the memory and fondness I carry for my home. Migrant samsui workers toil to build a city, while an emerging cityscape forms with intensity as time passes. The simultaneous dwindling of workers signals the displacement of the elderly—who built the country—in today’s vibrant economy.
